Cancer.

I caught my parents gazing at one another and couldnt resist taking a photo. Kauai, Hawaii 2006

I debated on posting this... this blog is supposed to be filled with our happiest moments as a family, but I think it is better for this to be journaled than ignored.

My father, Russell, was diagnosed with cancer on Tuesday. There aren't really words to explain how horrifying it is to be reminded of a loved one's mortality. None of us want to think about death. None of us want to think about pain. None of us want to think about sickness. I am comforted some in knowing that he will have excellent medical care, and his chances of complete recovery are good. But my best comfort is that this life is not the end.

Kurt has been wonderful. Brian and I have had periodic moments of joy and sorrow. My father is having second opinions, and knows his treatment options. This news followed the day after my father was placed on the Nevada Board of Pharmacy. My dad is traveling this weekend and part of next week and will be staying here with us on Saturday. I love that we are closer to family, especially now. I have seen my parents every weekend we have been here.

When Kurt and I prayed about moving here we were unsure of what would await us. We knew that Brian needed help with his home and his son, but we had no idea to what degree. To come here, start working, and find this out was shocking. Kurt said it best when he said, "Yeah, there were LOTS of things that brought us here, we just didn't know about them."

I'm thankful for my husband and his faith. I am so thankful that he is such a wonderful provider, presider, and protector. I am extra thankful to have him during this highly emotional time. He is such a wonderful father and companion- I don't know what I would have done without him.

I am thankful for my own father and the love he has always given me. I am thankful for his involvement with all of the grandboys, even when they are at their craziest! I am thankful for his calm nature and fun attitude.

I am thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am so thankful for The Book of Mormon, Bible, and our other scriptures. I am so thankful for our Prophet. I am so thankful for my loving friends. I am so thankful for our supportive neighbors. I am so thankful for my life!
