4th of July!

The 4th of July, our nation's Independence Day, is a really special day in The US. Barbecues, family outings, and tons of fun are always on the agenda! This was our first 4th of July in Nevada, and we decided to try out a few of the local hot spots for some patriotic fun! Our first stop was the Nevada Railway Museum. The kids LOVE it at the museum and today was extra special because some of their more impressive trains were running. We rode in one of the passenger coaches, and the kids worked a handcart and managed to blow a whistle or two- it was a great time! After the museum we headed to Sparks. We had dinner at the Nugget casino and walked around the local festival. We took our seats and watched Reno's biggest fireworks show- it was so beautiful! They were some of the biggest fireworks I have ever seen, and the kids loved it! We got home really late, but took the time to do some "poppers" before saying prayers and crawling into bed. It was a great day, and I am so proud to be an American =)

Harrison is adorable!

Carter loves to see the tracks!

Harrison and Carter look out the window during their afternoon train ride! Carter was impressed by the cannon display, which lead to a discussion about cannons, cannonballs, and the 4th of July!

They climbed into the cab and got to pull the bell!

This is the rear of the train car, and it was so pretty!

Time to leave the train!

Mommy refused to ride the handcar, but the kids were good at finding other adult volunteers to ride with them! I think it was good- there were so many adults were were afraid to take a turn but were too polite to ask- they wanted to let the little kids ride. Thankfully my kids were happy to share their ride!

Carter hops on one of the most impressive trains! Harrison was already on board =)

They adore trains =)

Harrison and Daddy! When asked about his favorite part of the 4th of July, Harrison proudly said, "my daddy!!!" We were lucky Kurt had the evening off to spend with us!

Lyle boys love their daddy!

Carter and Harrison found a bunch of kids playing Frisbee. Carter really wanted to play, but was too shy to approach the other kids. Harrison waited, and when the Frisbee came near he just snatched it and handed it to Carter. Once the boys realized the other kids didn't mind more friends in the game, they played happily until the fireworks started!

Carter ADORED the fireworks, and spent most of the time taking "pretty" pictures of them with our camera =)
